Lifestyle, not Diets

April 6, 2011

A visitor from a far-off planet observing the way we behave could easily assume that dieting is a very good idea. We do it all the time.

Dieting is so popular that in the past 10 years it is estimated that around 70 per cent of the adult female population and 30 per cent of all adult males have been on one.

It does not seem to matter whether it is the Atkins diet or the Cabbage Soup diet, people will try almost anything in their frantic desire to shed a few pounds. Unfortunately, the results are usually the same. Although diets do produce results in the short term, very few dieters maintain their weight loss, no matter which diet they try as too often those old eating habits will creep back in, and in time you’ll find yourself back at square one. Worse than this, some dieters end up bigger than they were before they started dieting. A diet only works for as long as you are on it. Most people get bored with rigid eating plans and go off the rails from time to time. Such people go from diet to diet, hoping to find the one that will stop them from failing. But such a diet does not exist.

The only people who lose weight and keep it off are those who are emotionally ready for the challenge and are able to make permanent healthy changes to their eating and exercise habits.

Wellbeing

March 31, 2011

We all have different ideas and interpretations of what wellbeing is. I like to see it as a way of feeling. If I feel good my wellbeing is good. There are things I can do to improve my wellbeing. I can change what I do, what I think and what I eat and drink, for example.

Most importantly, my wellbeing is something I can affect. Other factors come into play such as family, friends and work but my wellbeing is in my own hands.

It is what I choose to do about it that is crucial.

Starting from today begin to think about how you are living in a more concious way. Keep your wellbeing in the front of your mind and choose well.
